1968 season in the NFL

For the NFL, the 1968 season would be the 49th season and featured some new alignment within the league. The Giants would be part of the Capitol Division whereas the Saints would then be part of the Century Division.

The Eastern Conference of the league featured the Capitol and Century Divisions whereas the Western Conference featured the Coastal and Central Divisions. There were four teams in each division and each team played 14 games on the season.

The Eastern Conference leading power the Cowboys would go 12-2 on the season, easily winning the Capitol Division. The Giants, Redskins and Eagles were the other teams in the Capitol Division. By winning 7 games on the season the Giants were the best of the other teams. By winning 5 and 2 games respectively, the Redskins and Eagles struggled.

In the Century division, the Browns would take the division with a record of 10-4 on the season in the end. The St. Louis Cardinals were just behind with a 9-4-1 record on the season. The New Orleans Saints only managed to win 4 games on the season and the Steelers won 2 games.

In the Western Conference the Coastal Division featured, the Baltimore Colts and the Los Angeles Rams. Both had the two best records in the Conference. The Colts won 13 of 14 games. They had the 2nd best offense in the season and only allowed 144 points on defense.

By winning the NFL Championship, the Colts dominated the Browns 34-0. They would go on to play the Jets in the Super Bowl. The Colts fell to the Jets by a score of 16-7, despite being the heavy favorites.

At Soldier Field – Philadelphia Eagles Battle Against Chicago Bears

This weekend, The Philadelphia Eagles will lock horn with the Chicago Bears (4:15 pm ET, FOX).

This season, both teams are enjoying plenty of success. Due to the magnificent contribution of Michael Vick in the play the Eagles have been amazingly successful this season.

While the total for the game sits at 42, in this game the Eagles will be the 3.5 point favorites in football betting odds.

By Vick at the controls, the Eagles have been extraordinary. The Eagles appear they can thrash anyone as in recent weeks they have brought down each of the Manning brothers. The Bears will be a tough, fast defense for Vick to play against. Vick was capable to distribute the ball and hoist the attack, last week. This week in opposition to the Bears he will have to do much of the same.

As Vick scrambles, by keeping the defensive backs going deeper was one of the ways that the Giants were able to contain Vick. The similar game plan will have to be practiced by the Bears. If the Bears unable to keep on their receivers at the time Vick scrambles he will make them play as Vick has an arm that opponents any quarterback in history.

There will be loads of responsibility for the defensive line on their back with the defensive backs in coverage. By containing Vick, the Giants defensive ends did a good job, last week. It will be essential for the Bears to step up and play great containment.

McCoy was able to step up with a couple of huge runs to take the game down the stretch last week and he may be the key to this game. The Eagles will be in great form if he is competent to break free for a couple of big runs against the Bears

Atlanta at Cleveland – Preview – NFL

The Cleveland Browns will take on the Atlanta Falcons in a matchup that will take place in Cleveland. As of late, the Falcons are a team that has really been playing well. Meanwhile, the Browns can expect to start winning games on a weekly basis, before they have ways to go.

As of late, the Falcons have looked like topflight team. On the season, they are 3-1. Last season, their success started towards the end of the year. The Falcons, in their last 7 contests are now 6-1. The team features a tough defense and a solid offense that can keep almost anyone in check.

Per game, the defense is allowing just 15 points on the season. To keep the team in almost any game, this is good enough. Per game, the offense has scored 23 points and as their young quarterback continues to mature, it looks like they will just continue to improve.

To the offense, the Browns have made changes, including a change in quarterback recently. Now, Seneca Wallace is running the show. Wallace is not an amazing quarterback, he has the tools to keep his team in the game and this is the interesting thing about him. To get the attention of the defense, he is quick enough, allowing his receivers more time to get open.

When these two teams get together this Sunday, this game should be a hard fought matchup. The Falcons, of their own destiny, will definitely be in control. They should pull this one out, if they can keep from turning the ball over.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Baltimore Ravens – NFL Preview

The Pittsburgh Steelers will square off against the Baltimore Ravens in way is shaping up to be a very tough matchup between two of the most physical teams in the NFL. Fewer than 14 points a game are given up by both teams. By winning the first three games, the Steelers have surprised everyone. Meanwhile, through three games, the Ravens are 2-1.

This season, the Steelers still find ways to win each week, although they have been playing with their 3rd and 4th string quarterbacks. In a row, they have won 5 games. They have really handled the Ravens well over their past 5 encounters, although they not only have momentum. Against Baltimore, the Steelers have lost just one of their last 5 games. While playing in Pittsburgh, they have also won 9 of their last 10 matchups.

On defense to this point, the Ravens have been what everyone expects, but not until last week did, they really show a spark on offense. For Joe Flacco, Anquan Boldin really looked like he was an unstoppable option. For well over 100 yards, the tandem was connected. As they need a strong showing from their offense against this tough Steelers defense, this sort of offensive attack will be important.

Baltimore has looked like the dominant defensive team that once won a Super Bowl and they have won 4 of its last 6 games. By which team is able to move the ball early in the game, this team should be decided. You can expect these defenses to tighten up more and more, as the games goes on.

This will definitely be worth watching and it could be the most physical matchup of the season. In these ones, Pittsburgh will be the 1-point favorite. At 34, currently the total sits.

NFL Preview: Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings

NFC North rivals Detroit Lions and the Minnesota Vikings square off Sunday in Minneapolis.

This will be the third game of the season for each team. Each of these teams has started off slowly. Despite the fact that the Vikings have lost both of their games they will enter this one as the 10.5 point favorites in NFL betting, while the over/under total is 42.5

The Vikings have been a big disappointment to this point in the season. They had a magical season last year, but if you look at the numbers the Vikings were on the downfall last season as well. The team has lost 5 of their last 7 games. The offense has been sputtering and it has caused the total to go UNDER in 9 of their last 12 games.

Although the Vikings have been struggling they have dominated the Lions recently. They have won their last 5 games against Detroit and have not lost to the Lions on their home field for 5 games.

The Lions have struggled to win games, but many people are actually encouraged by their production. The team has struggled on defense, but the offense has averaged 23 points a game. They look like they’ve improved past where they were one year ago.

Although the Lions have not won any of their last 5 games on the road, this may be the chance to break the streak. The Vikings have not seen much production from Brett Favre and the team is without Rice, the star receiver for the Vikings. This week is as good as any for the Lions to pull an upset.
